How long has Beatitude House been in existence? Beatitude House was founded in 2000, after more than 25 years of working as a marriage and family therapist. What are the main issues you address in therapy? We feel called to bring hope and healing to the broken hearts of children and families devastated by emotional, physical and sexual abuse. We were led through prayer to be trained in the specialized field of attachment work. Why did you begin this specialized work in attachment? Because there are not enough Christian treatment opportunities for trauma survivors, especially for families wanting to bring Christ into therapy. We became a ministry out of The Holy Spirit’s promptings. Do you work only with Christian families? Many of the families we work with are Christian. We felt called to work with Christian families when we were continually asked by Christian families why their belief in GOD was not incorporated into their therapy sessions with other agencies. Throughout our work, however, we hope to help wounded families from various faith backgrounds. What specific training do you have in working with adopted and foster children? Matt has worked with children in the foster care/adoption system for 20 years. This was followed by extensive training in Colorado for five years. While there, we learned different approaches from world-renown experts in the attachment field like Terry Levy, Michael Orlans, Dan Hughes, Nancy Thomas. Attunement, Corrective Attachment Therapy©, and specialized parenting techniques were all part of the learning experience. We were also trained as therapeutic foster parents. We had children in our home re-parenting them during their two week intensive and sometimes for more time after. What percentage of your practice is with adopted and foster children? About 90% What professional organizations do you belong to? We are a registered agency with ATTACH and a member of IATM. Matt is an Approved Supervisor and Clinical Member of AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) manual used by therapists, counselors, and mental health providers. Also, our direct work with kids coming from traumatic backgrounds has shown us that not only is RAD a true and treatable diagnosis, but that RAD is still misunderstood by many professionals. What specific training and certifications do you have in working with children with trauma-attachment issues? Training from T. Levy and M. Orlans of the Evergreen Psychological Center, worked at ACE (Attachment Center @ Evergreen) as therapists and therapeutic foster parents. Have you provided any professional training on this topic? We have trained Christian therapists in combining inner healing prayer ministry and EFT to help trauma survivors of all ages, children and adults. What approaches do you use in therapy? We use emotionally focused therapy, cognitive behavioral focused therapy, EMDR. narrative therapy and bibliotherapy. |
